SHELTER SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR OFF-SITE ADOPTION EVENTS

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley is looking for volunteers to assist with offsite adoption events this weekend, and throughout the rest of the year.

Anyone interested will need to receive some brief training from shelter staff.

The move towards a zero euthanasia rate has put a demand on more offsite adoption locations, such as the weekly Las Cruces Farmer’s Market site and other seasonal events like this weekend’s adoption event at a gun show hosted at the Las Cruces Convention Center.

“We’re proud of the fact that through these events, the shelter has been successful in dropping the euthanasia rate by 10 percent under last year’s numbers,” said shelter director Dr. Beth Vesco-Mock. “But we can’t do it without the generosity of volunteers. Through their donation of time, we are able get more animals exposed to potential forever homes.”

The shelter also plans to host two additional offsite adoption events this weekend at the Pits for Peace event Saturday Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Young Park in Las Cruces, and also at the Dog Lovers Fair in El Paso.

Anyone seeking additional information or to schedule volunteer training can call the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley directly at (575) 382-0018.
