SIERRA NAMED TO NATIONAL HEALTH STEERING COMMITTEE

Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department Director C. Silvia Sierra has been appointed to the Health Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties.

The announcement of Sierra’s appointment was made last week by NACo President Linda Langston.

“Committee leadership at the national level is a serious commitment and a big responsibility,” Langston said. “A great deal of NACo’s strength is in its committees, and that strength is reflected in the commitment and active participation revealed throughout our committee structure.”

The 73-member NACo Health Steering Committee considers matters pertaining to health-care delivery and financing including indigent care, health care for the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care, local public-health programs, mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

“I am very proud of this appointment and eager to serve,” Sierra said. “Doña Ana County has been a role model for counties whose leaders take seriously their responsibility to the well-being of their constituents. That ongoing experience will greatly assist me as I take border health concerns to the national level as a member of this important steering committee.”
