High winds aggravated a structure fire in Anthony late Monday night, destroying several vehicles parked under a carport.

Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services personnel were called out to the 1400 block of Lincoln Street just before 11 p.m., arriving approximately four minutes after the first call to 911 was made. Doña Ana County fire crews from Anthony, Chamberino, La Mesa, La Union, Chaparral and West Valley Fire Department from El Paso all responded to put out the fire, which reportedly started in a vehicle that was parked under the carport.

The vehicle was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived.
Fire fighters battled both high winds and the fire. As a precaution neighbors who lived in the immediate area were evacuated.

The cause of the fire – which completely destroyed four vehicles and two motorcycles – is under investigation. The carport collapsed, and extensive damage to the house has temporarily displaced the family.
No injuries were reported.
