DOÑA ANA COUNTY SHUTS DOWN MESILLA DAM BRIDGE

The Doña Ana County Engineering Department has ordered the immediate closure of the Mesilla Dam Bridge on County Road C-06 south of Las Cruces. The bridge – located just west of the dam – appears in imminent danger of failure due to high water flows.

COUNTY OFFICES TO CLOSE FOR LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

Most Dona Ana County offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, to allow employees to observe the Labor Day holiday. Emergency services and law enforcement will not be affected.

INMATES TO CLEAN INDIGENT CEMETERY ON GRIGGS AVENUE

Inmate laborers from the Doña Ana County Detention Center will be at work Wednesday morning, Aug. 30 to clean weeds and trash from the Doña Ana County Indigent Cemetery on E. Griggs Avenue. The project is scheduled to begin between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m., continuing until the cemetery grounds are fully cleaned.

COUNTY ROAD CREWS DISPATCHED TO VILLAGE OF HATCH

At the request of Hatch Mayor Judd Nordyke, Doña Ana County road crews and heavy equipment have been dispatched to repair washouts to two major thoroughfares servicing the village. Crews and equipment are expected to arrive within the hour to begin repairs on Canal Road and N.M. 187.

DOWNTOWN HATCH DRY AS FLOODWATERS PUSH NORTH INTO FIELDS

During the early morning hours today, heavy runoff caused a breach of the Placitas Arroyo near Hatch. The breach occurred on the north side of the arroyo and allowed floodwaters into fields. Downtown Hatch was not affected.

FOUR-WAY STOP IN PLAY FOR TAYLOR ROAD/DOÑA ANA ROAD INTERSECTION

The Doña Ana County Engineering Office will post four-way stop signs at the intersection of Taylor Road and Doña Ana Road. The new signs will go up on Sept. 11, 2006.

BANK ACCOUNTS ESTABLISHED TO ASSIST HATCH FLOODING VICTIMS

Hatch Mayor Judd Nordyke has announced that bank accounts have been established in Hatch and Las Cruces where residents may make cash donations to assist flood victims in his community. Donations can be made in Hatch at Bank of the Southwest and in Las Cruces at First Community Bank. Both accounts are set up in the name of “Hatch Flood Victims.”

RIO GRANDE FLOWING BANK-TO-BANK AT HATCH

The Rio Grande is experiencing extensive runoff, and the river at Hatch at this hour is flowing bank-to-bank and rising. The river is running at 6,000 cubic feet per second. River flows could double by 1 a.m.
