EVANS NAMED TO NACo HOMELAND SECURITY TASK FORCE

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- District 4 County Commissioner D. Kent Evans has been appointed to the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Homeland Security Task Force. He attended his first meeting as a member of the task force on Friday, March 3 during the NACo national conference.

STATE DISALLOWS FLOOD-LEVY REBATES PROPOSED BY TREASURER’S OFFICE

The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department has refused a request by Doña Ana County Treasurer Jim Schoonover to refund over-collected flood levies to thousands of Doña Ana County property owners.

BOWLIN’S TRAVEL CENTERS VOLUNTARILY LIMIT SALES DURING DROUGHT

In what Doña Ana County Fire Marshal Paul Chavez called “a dramatic gesture of good corporate citizenship,” Bowlin’s Travel Centers of New Mexico has announced an immediate suspension of the sale of cigarettes in all of their New Mexico retail stores due to the fire danger in the state. They will also be limiting the sales of fireworks by selling fireworks only to out-of-state customers.

BORDER COUNTIES COALITION ADOPTS DOÑA ANA COUNTY COLONIAS MODEL

WASHINGTON, D.C. - After a presentation by District 1 Doña Ana County Commissioner Oscar Vásquez-Butler, the U.S./Mexico Border Counties Coalition has passed a resolution adopting Doña Ana County’s Colonias Initiative as a multi-county model for colonias improvements.
