    The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley will facilitate dog, cat, puppy and kitten adoptions this Saturday, Dec. 1. In addition to adoptions from the shelter site, adoptions also will take place at two off-site pet adoption events.

    The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department is taking applications for its winter Citizen’s Police Academy, which will take place every Saturday for six weeks beginning Jan. 5, 2013. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at 845 N. Motel Blvd.

    As many as 400 Doña Ana County residents can be given temporary shelter in the event of an emergency, thanks to a grant that recently purchased two mobile units ready to deliver necessary supplies anywhere they are needed in the county.

    Most Dona Ana County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22-23, 2012, to allow employees to observe the Thanksgiving holiday. Emergency services and law enforcement in the field will not be affected, but the administrative offices of the Doña Ana County Sheriff¹s Department will be closed.
