Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department Director Silvia C. Sierra has been appointed to a membership position on the National Association of Counties’ Health Steering Committee. NACo President Bill Hansell announced the appointment this week.
The Health Steering Committee deals with all matters pertaining to: health care delivery and financing (including indigent care); health care for the uninsured; Medicaid; Medicare; long-term care; local public health programs; mental health; substance abuse; and developmental disabilities.
“I’m honored to have been chosen to sit on this important committee at the national level,” Sierra said. “The unique health challenges facing Doña Ana County and other border communities must be consistently communicated at the national level in order for us to raise the bar of excellence on our commitment to service.”
In addition, the Health and Human Services Department has been awarded a certificate of excellence by the United States/Mexico Border Health Association and the United States/Mexico Border Health Commission “for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the Border Binational Health Week held Oct. 10-16, 2005.
