TWO DOGS TEST POSITIVE FOR HEARTWORM, LOOKING FOR FOREVER HOMES

Two dogs at the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley are hoping to find their forever homes, despite having been recently diagnosed with heartworm.

Dogs with a heartworm condition automatically qualify for free adoption, according to shelter director Dr. Beth Vesco-Mock.

One of the dogs is a female shihtzu/schnauzer mix who was brought in as a stray on Dec. 14. Shelter staff says she is approximately 3 years old and has already been spayed.

The other dog is a female poodle mix, who was brought in as a stray from Sunland Park. She has also been spayed, and is estimated to be between two and five years old.

Anyone interested in adopting either of these dogs or another pet from the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley main shelter can stop by anytime between noon and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, or from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The shelter is located at 3551 Bataan Memorial West in Las Cruces.
