STATE-MANDATED PROPERTY-TAX RATES RATIFIED

STATE-MANDATED PROPERTY-TAX RATES RATIFIED

New state-mandated property-tax rates sent down from Santa Fe were ratified Tuesday by the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners, which is required by state law to impose the new rates within five days of receipt by Doña Ana County.

Chief Appraiser Mark Krohn told the commission that the rates adjusted slightly up or down in each of the county’s tax districts. The only exception is in the City of Sunland Park, where the council requested steeper rates recently to help deal with a budget shortfall.

He presented two charts, one of which showed the 2011 tax rates and the other of which the 2012 tax rates. Both charts show the difference in change – up or down – from the previous year. (See attached.)

Taxing authority is divided across school districts, within municipal boundaries and in unincorporated areas. The charts show the applicable rates within each district.
