ACADEMY GRADUATES EIGHT VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS

The Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department will graduate eight new volunteer firefighters during a commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, in the Commissioners Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 N. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces.

This is the sixth class to graduate from the Doña Ana County Firefighter Academy since its inception in 2010. Prior to that, cadets had to travel out of the county to receive training.

The academy consists of seven consecutive weekends covering entry-level firefighter training and practical skills, culminating with several live, structural-fire exercises and a written exam.

The graduating cadets of Academy 6 are Joshua L. Adams, Diego Bonilla, Robert Castañeda, George A. DuCharme, Jr., Daniel Fortolis, Andrea Pinon, Ernesto Soto and Armando Torres. They will be assigned to the Anthony, Fairacres, Chaparral, and Chamberino fire districts.

Applications are always accepted from anyone interested in serving their communities by becoming a volunteer firefighter. Each candidate must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license. Applications are available at the Doña Ana County Fire Marshal’s Office at 845 N. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces, or at any Doña Ana County Volunteer Fire District.
