SHELTER OFFERS FREE ADOPTIONS DURING ADOPT-A-CAT MONTH

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley is celebrating Adopt-A-Cat Month with free adult cat adoptions through the end of June.

Millions of cats end up in shelters nationwide each year, including 5,526 that went through the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley last year, according to shelter director Dr. Beth Vesco-Mock. The month-long free adoption special is aimed at reducing the euthanasia rate in Doña Ana County and also to reduce the wait times of adoptable cats to be placed in good homes.

“We have cats of every breed, age and personality waiting for their forever homes,” said Vesco-Mock. “If you’re looking for a younger, frisky cat, or one that is mature and mellow, we’ve got a cat with the perfect disposition for your family.”

The staff welcomes visitors to the adoption center at the shelter seven days a week, and can also help with advice on litter box training and how to introduce a new cat to one already living in your home. “The staff is very knowledgeable about all of the animals in our care, including how each cat’s personality and behavioral traits would get along with others.”

Adoptions can also be done through several off-site adoption centers, including Petco on Lohman and Pets Barn on Valley Drive.

All adoptions through the shelter include a spay or neuter surgery, all appropriate vaccines and virus testing, a de-worming treatment, microchip, and City of Las Cruces licensing, if needed.
