SHERIFF’S CAPTAIN HAILED ‘COMMUNITY HERO’

A captain with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department has been named the 2012 Community Hero by the Anthony Rotary Club, an honor that was given at the District Conference in Albuquerque May 18, 2012.

Capt. Craig Buckingham has been with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department for almost 15 years and oversees the department’s Anthony substation. He traveled to Albuquerque to receive the award, intended to recognize the positive contributions by those who do exemplary things to improve their community.

“Capt. Buckingham always looks for the light at the end of the tunnel, even in the worst situations,” said Linda Woodward, president of the Anthony, NM/TX Rotary Club. “The old and young alike in our community are drawn to his smile and his humor. We are fortunate that Capt. Buckingham is always ready to lend a hand to the people and organizations in our part of Doña Ana County. His dedication is admirable.”

“It was a very humbling honor,” Buckingham said after receiving the award. “I received the honor proudly, knowing that the award is a reflection of the department as a whole. The deputies that serve the entire South Valley, from Chaparral to Sunland Park, are the heroes of this community.”
