DETENTION CENTER NURSE WINS SPOTLIGHT AWARD

Tammy Jo Rush, a mental health registered nurse at the Doña Ana County Detention Center, is the first-place winner in the 2012 Corizon Spotlight on Correctional Nursing for the Western region.

Rush was presented the award on May 17 by Detention Center Director Chris Barela, Contract Compliance Officer Don Fennerty and Health Services Administrator Debbie Fye, RN.

Nominated by a colleague, Rush was chosen the Western Region winner by the Nursing Leadership Council at Corizon, Rush’s employer and the provider of correctional healthcare for the Doña Ana County Detention Center.

“Tammy Jo’s compassion and exemplary nursing skills inspire all who work with her,” Fye said. “In the specialized and complex field of correctional nursing, Corizon is fortunate to have such a dedicated and caring individual on our team.”

Among other qualities, the prize was awarded based on impact of care on patients and demonstration of Corizon’s values regarding employees, clients, patients, integrity, wellness, diversity and action.

Rush received $250, a framed certificate, a framed copy of the nomination form and a Corizon gift pack with seasonal items. She is now in the running to win the corporate grand prize of $500 and a paid trip to the Nursing Leadership Council at corporate headquarters. Norma Melendez of El Paso was the second place winner and Jeff Hein of Mohave was awarded third place.

Corizon has more than 11,000 employees and is the leading provider of correctional healthcare services in the United States, delivering a wide range of healthcare and pharmacy programs to government agencies for the medical care of detainees and inmates.
