MAN KILLED IN FATAL CRASH NEAR ANTHONY, NM IDENTIFIED

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies have identified a man killed earlier this morning after the car he was driving collided with another vehicle west of Anthony, sending three people, including a pregnant woman, to El Paso-area hospitals.

Andrew Valenzuela, 22, died at the scene after his 2003 Honda two-door crashed into a white 1999 Ford F-250 pickup in the intersection of Westside Drive and Vinton Road.
Deputies say shortly before 10 a.m., Valenzuela apparently drove through a posted stop sign on Westside Drive, where the speed limit is 40 miles per hour.

The driver of the truck tried to veer left to avoid Valenzuela’s car, but was unable to avoid it. The car was sent spinning into a farm field northwest of the intersection.

Two occupants of Valenzuela’s car, a 21-year-old pregnant female and a 2-year-old boy, were taken by ambulance to an El Paso hospital.

The woman’s baby, a girl, was delivered at the hospital shortly after she arrived. All three are being treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital with lacerations to his face, but otherwise appeared to be in stable condition.

Deputies say it appears no one in the Honda was wearing a seat belt, and a child’s safety seat in the back of the vehicle wasn’t securely installed.
