Deputies made the stop near NM highways 436 and 187 near Garfield. Upon further investigation, 56 bundles containing 60 pounds of marijuana were found in the spare tire of the vehicle.

The driver, 27-year-old Alejandro Felix of Deming was arrested, as well as his passenger, 29-year-old Daniel Pacheco of Columbus. Both are charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to commit a fourth-degree felony.

Felix and Pacheco were transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where they were held without bond.

According to court records, both men were on federal probation for drug trafficking.
