TRANSPORT OFFICER AND RETIRED DEPUTY KILLED IN EARLY MORNING CRASH

An early morning accident west of Las Cruces has claimed the life of a Doña Ana County transport officer and retired sergeant of the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department.

Jay Reeves, 57, was killed in a single vehicle accident shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday. The crash happened on Interstate 10 near mile marker 116 near the Border Patrol checkpoint.

Reeves retired as a sergeant after 20 years of honorable service from the sheriff’s department and recently began working again in court security and transport.
