FILING WILL FINALIZE REGIONAL UTILITY IN SOUTHERN COUNTY

Officials from the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority will be on hand at 9 a.m. Wednesday when the formal filing of deeds in the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office will finalize the Authority’s creation, a joint utility effort of the City of Sunland Park and Doña Ana County, to provide an independent utility for the provision of water and wastewater services along the U.S./Mexico border in southern Doña Ana County.

The filing caps off a process that began in 2005. New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez was instrumental in brokering the final negotiations that will culminate in Wednesday’s filing.

The resulting Camino Real Regional Utility Authority will oversee provisions of services and utility billing to thousands of customers within the City of Sunland Park and the Santa Teresa development, as well as to thousands more in the rapidly developing areas adjacent to the Santa Teresa Port of Entry.

Invited guests include New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, the New Mexico Congressional delegation and the southern New Mexico legislative delegation.
