CLERK LYNN ELLINS NAMED TO NATIONAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION

New Mexico Secretary of State Dianna Duran has named Doña Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins to serve on the United States Election Assistance Commission’s Standards Board.

“I’m honored to have been selected to serve, and I will do so with the best interests of all New Mexico voters in mind at all times,” Ellins said.

In addition to Ellins, a Democrat, Duran also appointed New Mexico Elections Director Bobbi Shear, a Republican.

The Election Assistance Commission serves as a national clearinghouse and resource for information regarding election administration. It adopts voluntary voting system guidelines, accredits voting system testing laboratories and certifies voting equipment.

The Standards Board’s duties include reviewing voting systems guidelines and the EAC’s best-practice recommendations.

Each state appoints one official from each major political party to the commission. One appointment must be a local election official, and the other must be a state-level election official.
