SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT CHEERS ON RACING RETIREE

Doña Ana County Sheriff Todd Garrison and his staff have a clear favorite headed into the Western States Police and Fire Games, which will be held June 10 in Ontario, Canada.

Retired Capt. Jerry Little – a 13-year veteran of the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department – will be competing in the bike-racing event. Little, who began racing in 2007, already has several titles under his belt.

In 2008, he won the New Mexico State Championship in the age 40-49 category. In 2010, he took home the gold in New Mexico for the age 50+ category, as well as winning in his age class at the 2010 Western States Police and Fire Games in Lake Tahoe, Calif.

He also plans to compete in the Sept. 1 World Police and Fire Games in New York City.

During his tenure with the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department, Little was promoted through the ranks and helped establish and sustain the department’s Special Response Team, as well as the Bomb Squad.
