FINAL 2011 DIA DEL NIÑO CELEBRATION SCHEDULED IN CHAPARRAL

The Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department and the AmeriCorps VISTA Program are coordinating the final 2011 Día del Niño celebration on Saturday, April 30, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Chaparral Community Resource Center at 190 County Line Road.
Día del Niño Celebrations are held annually in Chaparral, Doña Ana, Organ, Del Cerro, Rincon and Radium Springs.

The celebrations bring residents together to celebrate and utilize their community resource centers and to build relationships.

Día del Niño was created by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to promote health and wellness among children. UNICEF designated April 30 as Día del Niño worldwide.

The 2011 theme is “Children’s Health and Safety.”

To date during Doña Ana County’s 2011 events, 349 youths and 253 adults have participated, and a good turnout is expected Saturday in Chaparral.

The event will feature representatives from the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department, the Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department and several regional non-profit organizations and health-care entities.

For more information on the program and the Chaparral event, call Eric Bransford of the Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department at (575) 525-5852.
