DEADLINE LOOMS FOR VALUATION PROTESTS, EXEMPTION APPLICATIONS

Doña Ana County Assessor Andy Segovia reminds property owners that Monday, May 2, is the last day to file a protest of property valuation for 2011.

"Property owners should carefully review their notices of value, since their tax bills in November will be based on the assessed value we have determined for their properties,” Segovia said.

Properties most likely to have seen changes in valuations include: 1) Properties of any kind to which any additions, renovations or demolitions have been performed; and 2) Any property upon which new construction has occurred.

Failure to receive the notice does not invalidate the value set on the property, any property tax based on the assessed value or any subsequent procedure instituted for the collection of taxes deemed owed.

Segovia said Monday also is the deadline to apply for various tax exemptions, including family exemptions and veteran’s exemptions. It also is the deadline for people who need to report or render manufactured homes.
