SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATES SHOOTING DEATH

Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department investigators have sent a man’s body to the University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner.

Jonathan Montoya, 19, suffered what appears to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11911 Soldier’s Ct., in Radium Springs.

An emergency call came in to the Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority Wednesday night at about 11:30 p.m. about the shooting. Deputies and ambulance personnel arrived to find two men attempting to revive the victim.

The University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death and will attempt to determine whether it was accidental.
