SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ISSUES CLARIFICATION

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ISSUES CLARIFICATION

Contrary to recent published reports, the Doña Ana Sheriff’s Department does not consider Barbara Weith a suspect or person of interest in a triple murder that occurred in April of 2010, in which her husband was one of the victims. Ms. Weith and her attorney have been cooperative with investigators.

In all homicide cases, investigators seek to interview all people close to the victims in an effort to gather as much information as possible that might lead to motive and/or possible suspects. Often these people may have information related in some way to the crime and may not be aware of it. Investigators wanted to speak with Ms. Weith for these reasons.

Initially there was some difficulty in contacting Ms. Weith, but that was due to distance, the threats she had received and the fact that Ms. Weith is understandably afraid for her safety.

Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department investigators have been in contact with Ms. Weith and her attorney for months, and are still trying to schedule an in-person meeting with her, but that does not imply that she is a suspect or person of interest.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is still working every lead in this case. Progress is being made.
