SILVIA SIERRA TAPPED AGAIN TO SERVE ON NATIONAL COMMITTEE

Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department Director C. Silvia Sierra has been re-appointed to serve on the Health Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties (NACo). She will serve a one-year term.

NACo President B. Glen Whitley made the re-appointment.

This is Sierra’s eighth year on the committee.

The NACo Health Steering Committee advises counties on all matters pertaining to health care delivery and financing, including indigent care, health care for the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care, local public health programs, mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

Key responsibilities for committee members include attending meetings and participating in bi-monthly conference calls, some of which include participation by the President of the United States.

Sierra said she works hard to represent the unique perspective of health challenges along the U.S./Mexico border, and she said other committee members have been highly receptive to her input.

Sierra regularly interacts with the New Mexico Congressional Delegation to communicate concerns and priorities set by the committee.
