DOÑA ANA COUNTY SHERIFF’S ACADEMY TO GRADUATE 16 CADETS

The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department will graduate its 13th law-enforcement academy this Friday, April 11, at an invitation-only ceremony in the Doña Ana County Government Center. New Mexico Attorney General Gary King will be the commencement speaker, and cadet John Signore will give the valedictorian’s address. Third Judicial District Judge Robert Robles will administer the oaths of office.

Sheriff Todd Garrison said 16 cadets will receive their law enforcement certifications at the graduation ceremony, which will feature an opening honor guard, the Pledge of Allegiance, an invocation and awards for academic, physical and overall achievement. The 26-week academy includes classroom instruction, firearms training, firearms certification and intense physical conditioning.

Graduating cadets will wear the uniform of the department they intend to serve, and they will be presented their individual badges at the conclusion of the ceremony.

In addition to Signore, graduates who will join the ranks of the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department include Luis Corrales of Las Cruces, Jose Gutierrez of Vinton, Texas, Valerie Montoya of Mesilla Park, Juan Ontiveros of Anthony, James Urquidi of El Paso, Gordon White of Las Cruces, and Curtis Yarnell of Las Cruces.

Graduates who will join the ranks of the Sunland Park Police Department include Luis DeSantiago of the City of Sunland Park and Amy Shepard of El Paso.

Graduates who will join the ranks of the Ruidoso Police Department include Jon Lund and Tyrel Tyson, both of Ruidoso.

Graduates who will join the ranks of the Deming Police Department include James Fetrow and Tony Maravilla, both of Deming.

In addition, Animas resident David Justice will graduate and serve in the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department, and Robert Valenzuela of Mesilla Park will graduate and serve in the Mesilla Marshall’s Office.
