COMMISSIONER OSCAR BUTLER NAMED HOUSING COMMISSIONER OF THE YEAR

The New Mexico Chapter of The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) has selected District 1 Doña Ana County Commissioner Oscar Vásquez Butler as its New Mexico Housing Commissioner of the Year.

Butler was selected from a field of commissioners representing more than 40 housing authorities from throughout the State of New Mexico. He was nominated by Thomas Hassell and Robbie Levey of the Doña Ana County/City of Las Cruces Housing Authority.

Butler is set to receive the award at an April 15 ceremony in Ruidoso, N.M., and he has been invited to attend the regional chapter conference in Springdale, Ark., where he will be recognized along with other housing commissioners of the year selected by their state chapters representing Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Louisiana.

“Affordable housing for Doña Ana County’s residents has been a priority I have championed since my first election to the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners in 2002,” Butler said. “This honor means a great deal to me, but I am even more gratified that during my tenure we have worked tirelessly with a variety of organizations to create viable affordable-housing opportunities for so many hard-working residents of Doña Ana County.”

The New Mexico chapter of NAHRO facilitates the professional development of its membership and advocates for quality housing programs in communities throughout the state.
