COMMISSIONER KRAHLING, FIREFIGHTERS TO SHAVE HEADS FOR CHARITY

District 4 Doña Ana County Commissioner Scott A. Krahling is sacrificing his hair to help New Mexico children with cancer. Krahling is teaming up with several Doña Ana County firefighters to collect donations and then shave their heads in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research.

Internationally, thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family, according to the organizational website at http://www.stbaldricks.org.

Doña Ana County staffers – particularly firefighters – have been participating in the annual event since 2008. This year’s head-shaving event will take place at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 20, at Dickerson’s Auction Barn on West Picacho Ave. Among the firefighters on county staff who are participating are Kellen Tarkington, Arturo Herrera, Eric Crespin, James Padilla, Arturo Nunez and Josh Sanchez, who have named their team ‘Bomberos Pelones.’

Krahling said he strongly supports the charity and challenges other elected officials and staff to get involved for the cause, as well.
