DIA DEL NIÑO CELEBRATIONS PLANNED IN FIVE COMMUNITIES

The Doña Ana Health and Human Services Department and local AmeriCorps* VISTA volunteers are coordinating the Fifth Annual Día del Niño celebrations throughout Doña Ana County during April.

Día del Niño is a tradition that began in Mexico to honor children and their roles in society. It is celebrated in Latin America every year on April 30. Doña Ana County staff and VISTA volunteers have planned five community events to honor children and provide activities for families. The celebrations provide an opportunity for community residents to utilize their community resource centers to build stronger community relationships. In 2008, more than 600 children attended the events.

The 2009 events are free and designed to be entertaining and educational for any community members who would like to celebrate their children’s lives. The event schedule is as follows:

Saturday April 4, 2009: Anthony CRC, 625 Acosta Road, Noon to 3 p.m.

Saturday April 11, 2009: Organ CRC, 5880 Second Street, Noon to 3 p.m.

Friday April 17, 2009: Rincon CRC, 220 Baker Street, 3:30-6 p.m.

Saturday April 18, 2009: Doña Ana CRC, 5745 Ledesma Drive, Noon to 3 p.m.

Saturday April 25, 2009: Chaparral CRC, 190 County Line Road, Noon to 3 p.m.
