TREASURER’S OFFICE WARNS OF TELEPHONE SCAM

The Doña Ana County Treasurer’s Office has been notified that a telephone scam is targeting property owners in Doña Ana County.

At least one property owner reports that she received a telephone call Wednesday evening from a person identifying himself as a member of the Treasurer’s Office staff. The caller told the property owner that she was behind on her property taxes and asked her for a credit-card number to which the outstanding balance could be charged.

The Doña Ana County Treasurer’s Office does not accept credit-card payments and does not notify property owners by telephone for any reason related to the collection of property taxes.

The Treasurer’s Office reminds property owners not to give out personal or financial information to anyone over the telephone and to immediately report suspicious calls to the appropriate authorities.
