OFFICERS BECOME FOOD SERVERS IN SUPPORT OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies, including the Doña Ana County Sheriff¹s Department and the Doña Ana County Detention Center, will be in uniform serving up dinner on Thursday, Oct. 23, at both Applebee’s locations in Las Cruces. Tips earned by the officers will go toward New Mexico Special Olympics.

Other agencies invited to participate include the Las Cruces Police Department, the NMSU Police Department, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the Mesilla Marshal’s Office, the N.M. National Guard and the U.S. Army.

In addition to the law-enforcement personnel, several Special Olympians will be on hand to open doors, assist with seating and otherwise generate excitement for the local and statewide games. They also will assist with fundraising by selling t-shirts, wristbands and torch pins promoting Special Olympics in New Mexico.

The event runs from 5 – 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, and the Applebee’s on Avenida de Mesilla and the Applebee’s on Lohman, east of Telshor.

Next May, the Doña Ana County Sheriff¹s Department and other law-enforcement agencies will participate in the annual torch run in advance of the statewide Special Olympics in Albuquerque.
