COMMISSIONER BUTLER REAPPOINTED TO NATIONAL HEALTH STEERING COMMITTEE

District 1 Doña Ana County Commissioner Oscar Vásquez-Butler has been reappointed to the Health Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties.

The announcement of Butler’s reappointment was made last week by NACo President Don Stapley.

“Committee leadership at the national level is a serious commitment and a big responsibility,” Stapley said. “A great deal of NACo’s strength is in its committees, and that strength is reflected in the commitment and active participation revealed throughout our committee structure.”

The 73-member NACo Health Steering Committee considers matters pertaining to health care delivery and financing including indigent care, health care for the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care, local public-health programs, mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

“I am very proud of this opportunity to continue to serve,” Butler said. “Since first being elected in 2002, health care has been one of my top priorities, and I’ve been privileged to be involved in and to serve on the Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Alliance since its inception. That ongoing experience will greatly assist me as I continue to work on policy and lobbying initiatives designed to emphasize border health concerns at the national level.”
