DOÑA ANA COUNTY WEBSITE GARNERS TWO MAJOR NATIONAL AWARDS

Doña Ana County’s award-winning website has been recognized again by the National Association of Counties, and two prestigious awards for innovation will be presented Sunday, July 13, to Doña Ana County Commission Chairman D. Kent Evans during the association’s annual conference in Kansas City.

The Doña Ana County website is a 2008 NACo Achievement Award winner for the introduction of live video streaming and digital meeting archives on the website. Doña Ana County was the first in the State of New Mexico to allow anyone with web access to view meetings of the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners live on the web as they unfold, and then to archive the video of each meeting for easy reference.

Doña Ana County’s website also will receive a 2008 NACo Achievement Award for its interactive module that allows Doña Ana County workers and supervisors to track worker’s comp claims online in conjunction with the state’s program-tracking system.

“Our website is constantly being improved due to teamwork and innovative ideas between the technicians and department heads and users,” said Doña Ana County Manager Brian D. Haines. “I’m proud of the Information Technology Department for the innovations that led to these new awards, and I am confident the website will continue to improve over time to meet this dynamic county’s many unique challenges.”

In both 2006 and 2007, the Center for Digital Government and NACo named Doña Ana County’s website among the best in the United States for counties with populations under 250,000.

The county’s website rated ninth in the category in 2006. In 2007, it moved up to eighth place. Rankings for 2008 have not yet been announced.

The website was overhauled in March of 2005 in a joint project by the Doña Ana County Public Information Office and the Doña Ana County Information Technology Department. It is updated on a near-daily basis.
