TREASURER REMINDS PROPERTY OWNERS OF MAY 10 PAYMENT DEADLINE

Doña Ana County property owners have until May 10 to pay their second-half property taxes before state-mandated interest and penalties begin to accumulate.

Doña Ana County Treasurer Jim Schoonover said his office is making the process as convenient as possible. He said payments can be made in any of the following ways:

* In person at the Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 845 N. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces.

* At any Wells Fargo bank branch.

* Using the drop box located near the main entrance to the Doña Ana County Government Center.

* Using the drop box adjacent to the Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office tellers’ windows inside the Doña Ana County Government Center.

* Mailing the payment to the Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office at 845 N. Motel Blvd., Las Cruces, N.M. 88007.

Schoonover also announced that his office will be open to accept payments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2008.

Schoonover said most property owners with mortgages will receive copies of tax bills for informational purposes only, but the mortgage company will make the actual tax payment from the property owner’s escrow account.

Property owners who have not paid their taxes in full and/or did not receive second-half reminders should immediately contact the Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office at (575) 647-7433.

“We make every effort to notify every property owner of their tax obligations,” Schoonover said. “We have already sent out more than 55,000 second-half reminders. If, for any reason, you haven’t paid your property taxes, please don’t miss the May 10 deadline.”
