PROPERTY-VALUATION NOTICES TO BE MAILED; PROTEST WINDOW OPENS

All property owners in Doña Ana County should soon begin looking for their official notices of valuation from the Doña Ana County Assessor's Office. The notices will be mailed March 31, 2008.

“Property owners should carefully review their notices of value, since their tax bills in November will be based on the assessed value we have determined for their properties,” said Doña Ana County Assessor Gary Perez.

Properties most likely to see changes in valuations include: 1) Residential properties which have sold in the prior tax year; 2) Properties of any kind to which any additions, renovations or demolitions have been performed; and 3) Any property upon which new construction has occurred.

Property owners have 30 days from the date of the official mailing to protest the assigned value of their property(s). Failure to receive the notice does not invalidate the value set on the property, any property tax based on the assessed value or any subsequent procedure instituted for the collection of taxes deemed owed.

The Doña Ana County Assessor’s Office also is accepting applications for family exemptions and veteran’s exemptions and from people who need to report or render manufactured homes.
