RADIUM SPRINGS FIRE FORCES ROAD CLOSURES; ONE HOME LOST

Fire-related road closures in the Radium Springs area have now been confirmed by New Mexico State Police to be active between the Fort Selden/185 intersection north to the Border Patrol checkpoint station on 185.

The fire appears to be dying down in many areas, but earlier it claimed one home, and authorities are bringing in earth-moving equipment to establish precautionary fire lines. Several additional homes remain under threat if the fire flares up again.

Voluntary evacuations are underway along N.M. 185 from Milepost 15 to approximately Milepost 20.

Law enforcement and fire officials are monitoring the fire, the cause of which is unknown at this time. There is a preliminary report of about 75 acres burned at this time. A shelter for evacuees has been established at the Radium Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

The American Red Cross is on hand at the EOC to assist with disaster recovery as needed. The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department and the Dona Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department are coordinating the incident response with the New Mexico State Police and the Bureau of Land Management at this time.
