COUNTY EMPLOYEES DONATE $5,000 IN NEW TOYS TO NEEDY CHILDREN

Doña Ana County employees have purchased more than 325 toys valued at more than $5000 for distribution to children in five of the county’s most economically depressed communities.

Coordinated by the Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department, the holiday initiative identified children from several colonias. The children’s names, ages and interests were printed on felt ornaments, which employees then ‘adopted.’ The initiative involved more than 300 county employees, each of whom sponsored one or more children and purchased a new gift for each, worth up to $20 each.

County employees are wrapping each gift in advance of the community events. The toys will be distributed at the following times and locations:

* Dec. 1: Rincon Community Center at 220 Baker St., 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

* Dec. 14: Anthony Community Center at 625 Acosta Rd., 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
