COMMISSIONER BUTLER APPOINTED TO NATIONAL HEALTH STEERING COMMITTEE

District 1 Doña Ana County Commissioner Oscar Vásquez-Butler has been appointed to the Health Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties.

The announcement of Butler’s appointment was made last week by NACo President Eric Coleman.

“Committee leadership at the national level is a serious commitment and a big responsibility,” Coleman said. “A great deal of NACo’s strength is in its committees, and that strength is reflected in the commitment and active participation revealed throughout our committee structure.”

The 73-member NACo Health Steering Committee considers matters pertaining to health care delivery and financing including indigent care, health care for the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care, local public-health programs, mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

“I am very proud of this appointment and eager to serve,” Butler said. “Since first being elected in 2002, health care has been one of my top priorities, and I’ve been privileged to be involved in and to serve on the Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Alliance since its inception. That ongoing experience will greatly assist me as I take border health concerns to the national level as a member of this important steering committee.”
