DOÑA ANA COUNTY AIRPORT RECOGNIZED FOR ‘EVENT OF THE YEAR’

The Doña Ana County Airport at Santa Teresa received the ‘Event of the Year’ Award this month at the annual New Mexico State Aviation Conference, held in Santa Fe Sept. 12-13.

Each October, the airport hosts the annual “Land of Enchantment Fly-In,” which features up to 150 experimental aircraft.

New Mexico Aviation Director Tom Baca presented the award to Doña Ana County Airport Manager Vernon Wilson, who said the three-day, 2006 event pumped tens of thousands of dollars into the area economy through fuel sales, lodging, meals and tourism.

In addition, he said the annual event raises money for several local charities, including the Las Cruces Community of Hope and the Lee and Beulah Moore Children’s Home in El Paso.

Wilson said the 2007 Land of Enchantment Fly-In is scheduled Oct. 5-7. He said the public is encouraged to come see the aircraft and meet the pilots and owners.

As in years past, the 2007 event will be sponsored by the War Eagles Museum, Azar’s 5T6 Resources and Gene’s Flying School, all of which have operations based at the Doña Ana County Airport at Santa Teresa.
