MULTIPLE AGENCIES PARTICIPATING IN PRISONER-TRANSPORT TRAINING

MULTIPLE AGENCIES PARTICIPATING IN PRISONER-TRANSPORT TRAINING

The Doña Ana County Detention Center is cosponsoring high-profile-prisoner transportation training Aug. 1-2 for 60 agents representing multiple agencies from three states.

Beginning at 10 a.m. today, classes will convene at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces to give each class participant a chance to get behind the wheel for training.

The training, in conjunction with Barry Kell and Associates, also includes an advanced transportation-operators’ course designed to provide officers with an overview of the duties and responsibilities of personnel assigned to transporting high-risk inmates. Both courses enhance the safe operation of large vehicles commonly used in inmate transportation.

Topics included in the training include: 1) Examples of recent high-profile cases; 2) Review of the incident-command structure; 3) Ethics in transportation; 4) Risks and liabilities; 5) Traffic issues and vehicle placement; 6) Operations planning; 7) Contingency planning; 8) Knowing your vehicle; and 9) Systematic vehicle searches.
