COMMISSIONER EVANS APPOINTED VICE-CHAIR OF TWO NACo COMMITTEES

District 4 Commissioner D. Kent Evans has been appointed vice-chairman of two powerful committees for the National Association of Counties. NACo President Eric Coleman announced the appointments late last week.

Evans will be vice chair of the Membership Committee and of the Labor and Employment Steering Committee.

The Labor and Employment Steering Committee deals with all matters pertaining to employer-employee relations, including personnel policies and practices, merit systems, equal-employment opportunities, collective bargaining, pensions, fringe benefits, occupational safety, workers’ compensation and employment programs for counties across the United States.

The committee also reviews matters related to welfare reform, youth employment, public-service employment, vocational education, migrant and Native American programs, rural manpower challenges, employment security and unemployment insurance.

The NACo Membership Committee seeks to increase NACo membership through innovative recruitment and retention programs. The committee is made up of member-county officials, NACo board members, state associations of counties’ executive directors and one NACo staff liaison.

“Commissioner Evans will be a strong advocate for county issues on Capitol Hill,” said NACo Executive Director Larry Naake.

“I’m honored to have been chosen vice-chair of these important committees at the national level,” Evans said. “I pledge to work hard on the committees’ work and to continue to represent Doña Ana County and New Mexico at the national level.”
