APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR SPACEPORT EDUCATION COMMITTEE SEATS

The Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Spaceport Educational Advisory Committee.

At their June 26 meeting, the commissioners agreed that the advisory committee will be comprised of representatives from each of Doña Ana County’s school districts, from the New Mexico State University Education and Engineering colleges, from a representative of the aerospace industry, as well as a commissioner and two members of the general public.

Under provisions of a tax increase approved last April by Doña Ana County voters, 25 percent of gross-receipts taxes collected to support Spaceport America will be allocated to education. The Spaceport Educational Advisory Committee will make recommendations to the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners about how to allocate the funding to the Hatch, Las Cruces and Gadsden public schools for enhanced math and science curricula designed to help area students pursue aerospace careers.

Valid application packets will consist of a letter of interest, a current resume and three letters of recommendation. The deadline to submit applications for consideration is 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Application packets must be sent to the attention of Jess Williams by fax at (505) 525-5948, or hand-delivered to the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 N. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces.
