COUNTY TERMINATES HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

COUNTY TERMINATES HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

Doña Ana County has terminated the employment contract of Robert ‘Rick’ McRoy, who had served since January as the county’s director of human resources. The termination is effective at 5 p.m. today.

After reviewing the arrest and booking reports related to McRoy’s June 22 DWI arrest by Las Cruces Police, Assistant Doña Ana County Manager M. Sue Padilla determined that termination was the best avenue for the county to pursue.

The fact that McRoy was arrested while driving a county vehicle with an open container inside and subsequently failed to pass field-sobriety tests contributed significantly to Padilla’s decision.

Under the terms of his contract, McRoy will receive approximately 37 hours of earned but unused vacation pay, in addition to eight weeks of severance pay. His county cell phone, building-access cards and other equipment have been surrendered back to the county.
