GARFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT SLATES OPEN HOUSE TO DEBUT NEW TRUCK

The Garfield Volunteer Fire Department at 4090 N.M. 187 will hold an open house beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, to show the community its newest fire truck.

Garfield Fire Chief Henry Duran said the 2007 E-One Typhoon cost $197,000 and replaces a 1980 Chevrolet pumper truck. The vehicle can pump 1,250 gallons of water per minute from a hydrant and features a 1,000-gallon tank. The truck also carries 30 gallons of fire-suppressing foam.

The truck was purchased from Pete’s Equipment of Albuquerque, N.M. and was delivered to Doña Ana County last week. It features state-of-the-art LED lighting and a powerful Cummins diesel engine.

The 20 members of the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department now have six fire-fighting vehicles in their fleet. The Garfield Volunteer Fire Department serves a large sector of northern Doña Ana County, from the Village of Hatch north to the Sierra County line and from west of the Village of Hatch to the Luna County line.
