BUTLER WINS REGIONAL AWARD FOR PUBLIC SERVICE

District 1 Doña Ana County Commissioner Oscar Vásquez-Butler is the recipient of the 2007 Public Service Award from the Border Fair Housing Economic Justice Center, based in Las Cruces.

The award was presented at an April 19 banquet, which was part of a two-day conference devoted to housing and economic-justice issues along New Mexico’s border with Mexico.

Anibal Olague, executive director of the Border Fair Housing Economic Justice Center, said the award was presented to Butler “for promoting economic justice in his official and extra-official capacities [which] have made a great impact in promoting equality in our border communities.”

Butler said he was honored to receive the award, and he said he will continue to support the Border Fair Housing Economic Justice Center as it works on behalf of Doña Ana County’s neediest residents.
