SCAM ARTISTS CALLING RESIDENTS SEEKING ‘DONATIONS’

Doña Ana County Sheriff Todd Garrison is warning residents to be careful about opening their pocketbooks to solicitors.

“I received a call Monday from a constituent,” Garrison said. “This person asked if the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department was requesting donations for bulletproof vests, because they received a call and the people were asking for monies for vests and representing themselves as agents of the department. We are not asking anyone for donations. Anyone who receives a call of this nature should get as much information as possible and notify us immediately so we can look into any fraud which may be occurring. The number to call is (505) 525-1911.”

Garrison said residents should not give out personal information, such as credit card numbers or bank-routing numbers to people who call seeking donations and claiming to represent law enforcement.
