TREASURER’S OFFICE TO OPEN SATURDAY AND ACCEPT MONDAY PAYMENTS

Doña Ana County Treasurer Jim Schoonover has announced additional opportunities for Doña Ana County residents to pay their property taxes without incurring interest and penalties.

The Treasurer’s Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, to allow working residents to pay their taxes in person before the Dec. 10 deadline. Since Dec. 10 is a Sunday, Schoonover said he also will accept payments all day Monday, Dec. 11.

Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 12, payments will officially be deemed late, and penalties and interest will accrue according to state law. Under the state statute, local officials have no latitude for waiving penalties and interest once they accrue, regardless of the circumstances.

The Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office is located on the first floor of the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 N. Motel Blvd. in Las Cruces.
