DOÑA ANA COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER WINS PRESTIGIOUS DESIGN AWARD

Southwest Contractor magazine has named the Doña Ana County Government Center as the winner of its 2006 award for interior projects in excess of $15 million. The annual competition recognizes construction and design excellence in New Mexico, Nevada and Arizona.

More than 520 submittals were received across a wide variety of categories for the competition, with 160 nominations from New Mexico.

“The quality of design and construction demonstrated by the projects in this year’s competition was outstanding,” said Scott Blair, editor of Southwest Contractor. “It was a real pleasure to see all of these incredible projects throughout the state. Everyone in New Mexico should be extremely proud of the work being accomplished by these talented contractors and design firms.”
An independent panel of judges chosen from the construction industry was assembled in each state to select the winners. The New Mexico panel chose 19 winners and Southwest Contractor chose one additional project as an honorable mention.

Each project will be featured in the December 2006 issue of Southwest Contractor, and will also be honored at an awards ceremony in each state. The New Mexico awards will be held at the Marriott Pyramid, Journal Center in Albuquerque on Tuesday, Dec. 5, as part of the ACEC/NM and SMPS/NM Ninth Annual Market Outlook Conference.

Winning projects were chosen on the following criteria: quality of design and construction, innovation, contribution to the industry, ability to overcome challenges and overall excellence. Any juror who may have been affiliated with a project submission abstained from voting on that entry.
