RIVER LEVELS RISING NORTH OF HATCH; DOWNSTREAM RESIDENTS ON ALERT

Storm-related runoff is filling the Rio Grande north of Hatch, and capacity river flows are moving south.

Residents of Rincon, Radium Springs and all other downstream communities should immediately prepare to seek higher ground in the event of a levee overflow.

Doña Ana County Flood Commission Director Paul Dugie said crews are monitoring water levels and flow rates through the night.

“Residents of low-lying areas should be on alert and ready to move quickly,” Dugie said. “The river is moving rapidly, quickly and dangerously at this hour.”

Doña Ana County Sheriff Todd Garrison said he has deployed deputies along the river channel to help coordinate evacuations if they become necessary.
