MESQUITE REPORTS FLOODING, OTHER COMMUNITIES LIKELY TO GET HIT

The southern Doña Ana County community of Mesquite is now reporting some flooding.

Powerful, slow-moving storm cells moving through the area are likely to affect many rural communities, as well as the City of Las Cruces during the next several hours.

Residents of low-lying areas, particularly those who live near the Rio Grande -- are strongly urged to prepare to seek higher ground on very short notice.

Doña Ana County is deploying resources through the Emergency Operations Center, but as more communities are affected, resources will be correspondingly strained. Sandbags are available at most Doña Ana County volunteer fire stations. Sandbags will only be allocated for protecting doorways of inhabited buildings.

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded NOT to attempt to cross fast-moving water.
