COUNTY CONDUCTS DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS, PREPARES FOR GOVERNOR’S VISIT

Doña Ana County is conducting damage assessments associated with Tuesday’s flooding in several south-county communities. Assessments are being conducted by helicopter and on the ground.

As priority areas are identified, heavy equipment and personnel are being deployed. Road crews worked through the night in many areas, and fresh shifts are taking over to clear county roads in Chaparral, La Union, Anthony and Santa Teresa.

The Doña Ana County Emergency Operations Center remains activated with coordinating personnel on call. The county remains under a severe weather alert, with more storms possible this afternoon.

Gov. Bill Richardson is expected to make an announcement this afternoon in Las Cruces regarding the situation. He may declare a state of disaster.
